Apple crisps with cinnamon and pepper

Last month I was in London and bought this amazing magazine Woman & Home, Eating Smart and discovered lovely gluten and lactose free recipes. One of them was this recipe for apple crisps with cinnamon and black pepper. Decided to try it right away as I am a huge fan of crisps and it wouldn’t hurt anyone if there was a healthier version of it, right?


  • 2 large apples
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • black pepper

Pre heat the oven to 120 degrees and cover the oven tray with parchment paper.

Cut off the top and bottom of the apples. If you have one of those tools to get the core of the apple out, use it now! If not you’ll have to do that per slice a bit later on. Slice the apples into really thing pieces (using a knife, cheese slicer or vegetable peeler) and place them in a bowl.

Gently pour/sprinkle the cinnamon over the apple slices. Don’t forget to shake the bowl a bit in order to get cinnamon on every slice. Do the same thing with the black pepper (I used 1/3 tsp)

Place the slices on the baking tray and put them in the oven for at least 2 hours! As ovens can be very different I recommend you to check every now and then if they are crispy yet.

Once they are crispy, remove the tray from the oven and let them cool down. Store in an airtight bag.
